Aqua Therapy

Water-based therapy tailored to you!

Whether you're managing chronic conditions and pain, recovering from an injury or surgery, or want to improve your strength and balance, aqua therapy offers low-impact movement and resistance with powerful results to get you doing the things you love.

Why Aqua Therapy?

Aqua therapy combines expert guidance and the natural properties of water — including buoyancy, hydrostatic pressure, and resistance — to create a safe, supportive, and highly effective environment for rehabilitation and wellness.

Buoyancy, a force acting against gravity, decreases weight bearing and stress on joints and connective tissues, and can support or resist movement. This means less pain, more freedom of movement and flexibility, a safe environment to practice balance without fear of falling, and gentle strengthening as muscles work against buoyancy in new ways.

The water molecules provide gentle compression on the body, called hydrostatic pressure, which helps reduce pain, edema (swelling), and stiffness. It improves circulation, supports heart and lung function, and provides sensory input which can have a calming effect.

The natural resistance of water from all directions and viscosity (which naturally slows down movement) impact tone, muscle function, and coordination. This allows for slower, safer movements with extra time to work on reacting and quality of movement.

Who Can Benefit?

Aqua therapy can be especially helpful for people with:

  • Orthopedic conditions (arthritis, post joint replacements or repairs, osteoporosis)

  • Neurological conditions (post stroke, Parkinson’s disease, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis)

  • Chronic pain or limited mobility

  • Circulatory or respiratory conditions (COPD, diabetes)

  • Balance challenges or at risk of falls

What to Expect

A land evaluation will be completed with an Occupational Therapist who is Aquatic Therapy Rehab Institute Certified and a customized plan will be developed. Follow-up sessions will be one-on-one in the comfort of your own private pool or at a therapy pool location. Sessions are private pay.
